The Palm Studio is one of Lake Placid’s newest small businesses, but owners Janell Youngman and Brandi Youngman did not set out to simply open an exercise studio. They wanted to create the kind of place they had found for themselves. The idea began after Janell encouraged Brandi to attend a Pilates session in Sebring. What they discovered was not just a workout. It was one hour away from the everyday roles and responsibilities that can take up so much of a woman’s life.
“Going to Pilates allows me to be not the mother, not the wife, not the housewife, but the woman,” Brandi said.
That hour mattered. It gave them time to move, breathe, focus and be part of something that felt good for the mind, body and spirit. They believed Lake Placid needed a place like that, too.
The result is The Palm Studio, a classical Pilates studio rooted in faith and designed for all skill levels. The studio is meant to be welcoming, whether someone has experience with Pilates or is walking in for the first time. Janell has received training in Peak Pilates, while Brandi has trained in Power Pilates. Braelyn Simmons is also an instructor at the studio. Most sessions take place on the floor, and the instructors work closely with each client. Movements can be modified as needed, with attention given to comfort, safety and each person’s ability level. All ages are welcome, but those under 18 must have parental consent.
The studio’s philosophy is centered on classical Pilates fundamentals, faith-based movement and honoring the body through strength, discipline and consistency. But just as important is the sense of community the studio is trying to create.

Sessions are offered every day except Sunday, with times throughout the week, including early morning sessions as early as 4 a.m. The studio also offers special event nights, including Neon Nights, which bring a higher-energy atmosphere to the space. Classes are sold individually, and three-session and five-session packages are also available. Pilates mats may be rented, or clients may bring their own.
For Janell and Brandi, The Palm Studio is about giving Lake Placid another place to gather, move and feel connected — one session at a time.
