OFFICIAL UPDATE: TRIM Notices

Share

OFFICIAL UPDATE: According to Highlands County Property Appraiser Raymond McIntyre, 19,000 of the 120,000 TRIM notices mailed contained an error. The remaining notices were not affected.

A TRIM—or Truth in Millage—notice is not a property tax bill. It shows a property’s assessed value, exemptions, proposed tax rates and estimated property taxes before local taxing authorities finalize their budgets and millage rates. It also includes information about upcoming public budget hearings. Non-ad valorem assessments, such as fire and garbage assessments, are not included.

The third-party vendor responsible for preparing the notices is correcting the errors. Replacement notices will be mailed to affected property owners no later than Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the vendor’s expense.
