Lake Placid Morning Rotary Takes Aim at Its Third Annual Turkey Shoot

Share

From helping teachers at Lake Country Elementary to providing scholarships for graduating seniors, the Lake Placid Morning Rotary Club has spent decades finding ways to support its community. This fall, one of the club’s main fundraisers returns for its third year. The Turkey Shoot is scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, and Thursday, November 19, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Camp Cloverleaf 4-H Shooting Range, 126 Cloverleaf Road in Lake Placid. And this is more than an event for experienced shooters. Children ages 8 and up can participate, with separate shoots for kids, women and men.

Shot tickets cost $5 each, and shotguns are provided. The event will also include raffle tickets for coolers, gear and guns, food and refreshments from El Ranchito Taco Truck, and a bounce house for the kids.

For the Morning Rotary Club, the Turkey Shoot is one of two major fundraisers each year. The other is a spring golf tournament. The money raised helps support the club’s projects, including its work with Lake Country Elementary teachers and students, scholarships for students pursuing college or vocational training, and support for veterans traveling to Washington, D.C., through Honor Flight. The club also sponsors a local student to attend the Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders and participates in the Salvation Army’s Christmas bell-ringing campaign.

Chartered in 1970, the Lake Placid Rotary Club has 30 active and honorary members from a range of businesses and backgrounds. Members meet Wednesdays at 6:44 a.m. at the Purple Iris Tea Room, and the club welcomes people interested in joining. Those who prefer a different meeting time can also look into the five other Rotary clubs in Highlands County.

Businesses can support the Turkey Shoot through Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsorships, or by donating cash, gift certificates or merchandise. The Turkey Shoot runs both evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. at Camp Cloverleaf. Bring the family, try your hand at the shooting line, and enjoy an evening that helps fund projects right here in the community.
