Nearly 50 years after Bicentennial Park opened, the Town of Lake Placid is exploring plans to update the park with new playground equipment and other recreational improvements. What those improvements will look like is still being considered, and residents have an opportunity to help shape the plans. The Town is preparing an application for funding through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP), a state grant program that helps communities develop and improve public recreational facilities.
Several playground designs and equipment options have been presented for consideration, offering possibilities for updating the aging park. No final design has been selected, and public input will help guide the Town’s decisions.
What Would You Like to See?
Residents are encouraged to complete a community survey to share their preferences for playground equipment, features and other improvements. The survey is part of the public participation process associated with the Town’s grant application.
Those interested in seeing what is being considered can review the playground renderings and presentations at the Lake Placid Municipal Center. The designs were presented by Jim Lassiter of GameTime during a recent community meeting facilitated by 33852 Connect. Read our earlier article about the presentation.
A Park With Community Roots
Bicentennial Park opened in 1976 as the nation celebrated its 200th anniversary. Local organizations and individual donors helped make the park possible, with Monte Delaney serving as chairman of the Bicentennial Park Committee.
A time capsule buried on the property is intended to be opened in 2076, the nation’s 300th anniversary.
Now, as the Town considers the park’s next chapter, residents can once again participate in planning its future.
