Only one contractor submitted a bid for the Town of Lake Placid’s Lake June Park pickleball project, and the proposal came in above the amount established by the town. Bids were unsealed Tuesday, Aug. 11, with Legacy Sports submitting the only proposal at $643,335.

The town’s solicitation established a not-to-exceed bid amount of $610,000. Legacy Sports’ proposal was $33,335 above that amount. The bid is considered non-responsive, but it may still be considered by the Lake Placid Town Council during a special meeting scheduled for Aug. 27.

The pickleball project has been in development for some time and is being funded through a combination of grant funding and town money. The project has $499,274 in combined grant funding, including $200,000 through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program and $299,274 from Highlands County.

The town previously estimated the overall project cost at $699,274, but when the project was put out for bid, council directed that the solicitation include the $610,000 maximum bid amount. With only one proposal received — and that proposal exceeding the stated bid ceiling — council will now determine how to proceed with the project when it meets Aug. 27.
