Town of Lake Placid seeks applicants for utility and planning board vacancies

The Town of Lake Placid is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the Lake Placid Regional Utility Advisory Commission and the Local Planning Agency/Board of Adjustments.

The Lake Placid Regional Utility Advisory Commission reviews issues tied to the town’s regional utility system and makes recommendations on utility operations, infrastructure improvements, rates, customer service and long-range planning. Applicants for the utility commission are not required to live within the Town of Lake Placid. According to the town’s public notice, the Town Council is particularly interested in applicants with experience or expertise in utilities, engineering, finance, planning, development or related fields.

Utility discussions have included water and wastewater rates, revenue needs, capital improvements, debt service, reserves and long-term planning for the town’s utility system.

The Local Planning Agency/Board of Adjustments reviews planning, zoning, land use, variances, development proposals and matters related to the town’s Comprehensive Plan. Members of that board must either live within the Town of Lake Placid, own property within the town or reside within the geographic area defined in the Lake Placid Regional Plan as established in the town’s Comprehensive Plan.

Planning and zoning items that move through the town’s review process have included final plats, site plans, parking reductions, special exceptions, planned developments, rezoning requests and other land-use matters. Past examples have involved commercial projects, outdoor storage requests, parking requirements and development proposals before they reached Town Council.

For applicants, the vacancies are an opportunity to take part in the review process on issues that affect Lake Placid’s growth, infrastructure and future development.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest and/or resume to the Town Clerk’s Office no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, June 30.
