The first Father’s Day Bass Open on Lake June drew 15 boats Saturday, a strong showing for a first-time tournament and a sign that Lake Placid anglers may be ready for more. The tournament, hosted by The Bait Shop in Lake Placid, ended with a 1 p.m. weigh-in at Lake June Park. There was pizza, raffles, giveaways and plenty of talk about making this more than a one-time event.
With enough interest, organizers said they would like to begin holding monthly bass tournaments on Lake June starting in August.
Father and son Justin and Carson Yero had the big day on the water. The pair took first place, won the Father/Child Big Bass prize and also claimed the $500 Big Bass award. Altogether, they took home $1,250. Their winnings included $600 for first place, $150 for the Father/Child Big Bass prize and $500 for Big Bass.

Second place went to Rider Krueger and Aaron Rome, who won $360. Third place went to Mike and Jax Whitaker, who won $240.

Riley English was recognized for catching the smallest bass.

Arsenal Fishing provided the weigh-in bags for the tournament.

For The Bait Shop, the turnout was a good start. Fifteen boats for a first-time tournament gave organizers reason to believe there is interest in regular local fishing tournaments in Lake Placid. The Father’s Day Bass Open was built around competition, but also around families spending time together on the water. That showed in the final results, with father-and-child teams among the winners and a father-son team taking the top prize.
