Lake Placid Chamber Continues Director Search, Clarifies Visitor Center, Festival and Fireworks Roles

The Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce is continuing its search for a new executive director after a recent hire did not remain in the position. The search follows the departure of longtime executive director Jennifer Bush, who had been closely associated with the Chamber’s visitor center, festivals and community role. The Chamber, which also operates as Lake Placid’s visitor center, remains open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to Chamber Board President Gilbert Randall.

Randall told the Insider the office continues to be staffed by volunteers, as it has been in the past, with Chamber board members also filling in while the executive director search continues.

The update comes as questions have circulated locally and on social media about the Chamber, the Mural Gallery, the Legacy Foundation, local festivals and the annual July Fourth fireworks display over Lake June. Randall said the Legacy Foundation has absorbed the Mural Society and has taken the lead in making sure the annual July Fourth fireworks display over Lake June continues this year.

Donations for the fireworks may be made at the Chamber office or mailed to the office, Randall said. He said the fireworks effort was picked up on short notice after it was recently discovered that the Junior Chamber had dissolved and the display would not take place this year.

Randall also clarified that the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce continues to produce the town’s festivals. “The festivals are produced by the Chamber as they have always been,” Randall wrote. The distinction matters because several Lake Placid organizations are closely tied to the town’s identity, tourism and community events. The Chamber serves local businesses and visitors. The Mural Gallery remains a point of interest for people coming to Lake Placid, Florida. The festivals bring residents and visitors into town. The fireworks over Lake June are a long-running community tradition.

For now, the Chamber’s message is the office and Mural Gallery remain open during posted weekday hours, the Chamber continues to produce festivals, the Legacy Foundation has taken on the former Mural Society, and the July Fourth fireworks effort over Lake June is moving forward.
